Approach

updated Mar 2021

Approach

The main channel of the river is only marked by buoys from the vicinity of the pilot boarding position to Bull Rock, approx 1nm SSW of Kraut Point, and further up from LaHave, from Weagle Island to Bridgewater public wharf, 1.75nm W.

Anchorages

Secure anchorage can be found approx 1nm NW of Fort Point in about 8m, mud, above the La Have ferry crossing and a submarine cable.

Anchorage can be arranged through Halifax.

Restrictions

A cable ferry crosses the river at LaHave 0.5nm to the E shore of the river and operates 24 hours per day. Lights are displayed on poles at each landing point which indicate ferry operations. Red indicates the ferry is underway and green that the ferry is berthed and the channel is clear. Vessels should not proceed across the ferry route when the red lights are visible.

Submarine cables cross the river at various locations between Kraut Point and Bridgewater as indicated on local charts.

Navigation of the river at night is possible but not recommended.
