Approach

Kyrenia New Harbour is situated 0.5nm E of the old harbour is an artificial harbour protected from the N by a breakwater extending from the shore for 400m NE, then 600m SE and from the SE by a breakwater 230m in length.

The entrance between the heads of the breakwater is open SE. Lights are exhibited from white concrete towers 8m in height situated on the head of each breakwater.

The port entrance has a depth of 8.5m, with a distance of 180m between the 2 breakwaters.

Anchorages

There are two anchorages, 0.25nm and 0.4nm NNW of the head of the Old Harbour Mole, respectively. The outermost anchorage, with good holding ground in a depth of 24.0m, has a bottom of mud, sand and weed, with small boulders.

Three mooring buoys lie, respectively, 0.3nm NNW, 0.25nm N and 0.3nm NNE of the head of the Old Harbour Mole.

ETA and pre-arrival notices

ETA messages should be sent to the Harbour Master, via Fax: +90 392 8154988, 48 and 24 hours prior to arrival. The message should include the LOA, beam, draught, number of passengers, free pratique request and agency.

Communications

Istanbul Radio is used for passing messages at long range, throughout 24 hours, the following frequencies are monitored, 8662kHz, 2736.6kHz. Telex: 23712 RDRDTR, 28772 KTR.

Inmarsat communication is possible.

VHF: The pilot maintains a watch on Ch 16, during working hours.

Notice of readiness

The NOR should be tendered during official working hours.

Health

Pratique can be applied for by radio 24 hours prior to arrival. Ship Sanitation Control and Exemption Certificates can be renewed.

Customs and immigration

Customs allowances: A bottle of spirits and 200 cigarettes for each person.

Immigration: Passports and/or Seaman's Books are accepted by the police and immigration authorities. On ship's arrival passports and/or Seaman's Books are retained by Immigration against the issue of landing cards which are used until the ship's departure when the passports and/or Seaman's Books are returned to the Master.

Flags

The flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is to be hoisted on a mast from 0800 hours to sunset

Notices and regulations

The landing of dogs or other animals is not permitted. The disposal of garbage and waste is strictly prohibited both in the port and territorial waters.

Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI)

Cyprus has signed a PSI ship boarding agreement with the USA aimed at stemming the flow of weapons of mass destruction. If a US or Cyprus flagged vessel is suspected of trafficking proliferation related cargo, either party to this agreement can request authorisation to board, search and possibly detain the other's vessel and it's cargo.
