Directions main fairway, authorised draught 6.1m and 5.6m: Approaching Kristinestad from SW, steer 062° for Botom, approx 7.5nm E of the town and then after embarking the pilot, approx 1nm WSW of Hoijerssten Lightbuoy, proceed on the following alignments.
Harkmeri Front Light (62°11.5'N 021°19.9'E) and Hansnasskatan Rear Leading Light (1.75nm ENE) (red rectangles, yellow stripe, on white concrete towers; elevations 7m and 24m) are in line bearing 071°; they lead from seaward passing close to Hoijerssten Lightbuoy, then between the buoys (spar) marking Vitus, shoal ground on the S side of the fairway and Storbadan, on the N side approx 2.5nm WSW of the front light structure; then between Granbergsgrund on the N side, and Karlen on the S side, both buoyed shoals 1nm further ENE.
Lappungen Front Leading Light (62°11.9'N 021°20.6'E) (yellow rectangle, red stripe, concrete base; elevation 5m) on a rock and Lappungen Rear Leading Light (yellow rectangle, red stripe, concrete base; elevation 5m) on a rock and Lappungen Rear Leading Light (yellow rectangle, red stripe; elevation 9m) 2nm ENE, are in line 058°; they lead 1nm ENE passing close between the buoyed dangers either side, to a position close N of Harkmeri.
The fairway then turns E for a very short distance on the Hansnas Leading Line (below), passing N of Harkmeri Skata Lightbuoy (starboard hand) moored on the S side of the channel close NNE of Harkmeri; then alter course to 021° with Harkmeri Front Light (62°11.5'N 021°20'E) (red rectangle, yellow stripe; elevation 7m) and Vastra Karkhamn Rear Leading Lights (below) in line astern. If bound for Bobergshamn, steer SE from Harkmeri Skata Lightbuoy for approx 0.75nm, passing close NE of Margrund, a high islet approx 0.35nm SE of Harkmeri; then observing the buoyage, steer approx 180° passing through a buoyed section E of Bordan, anchoring N or S of that islet according to draught. Hansnas Leading Lights (yellow rectangles, red stripe; elevations 7m and 11m), the front (62°11.8'N 021°22.3'E) on a rock and the rear 0.35nm E, are in line 083.5°.

A branch channel, authorised for a draught of 2.4m, leaves the main fairway 0.9nm WSW of Harkmeri, leading ENE for a short distance then S with Langgrund leading lights (62°09.9'N 021°18.9'E) (white rectangles, red stripe, elevation 4m and 6m, lit as required) in line bearing 176.5°.
Alternative approach fairway, authorised draught 6.1m: The alternative approach from NW is only suitable for navigation by day. Vessels approaching from NW should avoid the shoal patches with a least depth of 7.2m, lying approx 1.75nm WNW of Storgrund (62°19.5'N 021°04.5'E) then steering SSE until Torngrund Beacon and Hansnasskatan Light Beacon are in line.
