Approach

Krabi is a large bay entered between Laem Nang (08°00'N 098°51'E) and the NW extremity of Ko Pu 11nm SSE. The port is situated on the W bank of Mae Nam Krabi, 1.5nm within the entrance. The port channel has a length of 6nm, width 60m and depth of 4.5m. Draught limitation in the channel is 14.0m.

A channel with a least depth of 0.5m leads NE passing NW of Ko Nok (08°02'N 098°55'E) then to the common estuary of Mae Nam Chi Lat and Mae Nam Krabi. Vessels with a draught of 4.0m can reach Krabi at HW.

Laem Plong provides a deep water berth for Krabi, 10nm W of the town.

Anchorages

Laem Plong: Available 1.5nm W of the berth in depths of 20.0-27.0m with good holding ground. The anchorage area depends on the Master's discretion and weather conditions. Before intended visit, Masters are advised to check with the local agent for the specific anchor position.

Restrictions

Laem Plong: Vessels must arrive with full ballast, as the height from the waterline to the loading conveyor is 12.0m.

Tugs

Tugs are not available.

Mooring

It is recommended to berth at daylight slack water using the assistance of the Berthing Master.

Laem Plong: Off berth the vessel anchors with port anchor, 3 shackles and sends two lines to both bow and stern buoys and two each to port bow and starboard side to position vessel approx 5m from the dolphin and spout. The vessel then shifts on mooring lines to load each hold.

Vessel must have good mooring ropes, a minimum length 200m and 70mm diameter. All mooring lines are to have equal strain and are to be kept tight.
