Tides
Range 1.0m. In the vicinity of Kolobrzeg, the coastal current flows across the entrance of the harbour. With winds from NE, through E, to the SE it sets W, and with winds from the NW, through W, to the SW it sets E. With winds from the NE, through the N, to the NW the current may set either E or W.
The coastal current is strongest when gales blow parallel to the coast, and may then attain a rate of 2.5kts.
The current of the river flows outwards, usually at a rate of 1kt. After heavy rains it can often attain a rate of 3kts but when ice is in motion, it may reach 5kts.
In the summer the level of the water usually falls 0.3m, and during all seasons short water level variations may occur depending on weather (wind) conditions.
Max draft per terminal

Approach
updated Aug 2010Approach
The entrance of the port is formed by two slightly curving breakwaters, the E of which extends 500m seawards and the W breakwater extends 450m with an entrance width of 84m. There is a turning basin within the port with a diameter of 100m. The approach is dredged to 8.0m, within the breakwater the depth is 6.0m and 5.0m within the harbour.
Directions: From Kol Lightbuoy (safe water), moored approx 2.5nm NW of the entrance, the line of bearing (148°), of the grain elevators, leads 2nm SE. Then alter course to 122.5° to bring the Zaslubin z Morzem monument in to line with the E mole Light, then keep midway between the moles, entering at lowest speed consistent with steerage way being careful not to approach too close to the stone scarp protecting the outer side of the E mole head.
Careful attention must be paid to the current which sets across the entrance, and the approach must be made so that the course made good will lead straight in. Otherwise, there is danger of being set against one of the moles, under the influence of the currents out of the river and along the coast, which meet off the heads of the moles. Hawsers must be ready, and speed reduced inside the moles.
Caution: During high sea levels entering the harbour is difficult and may be dangerous. During strong gales vessels should not attempt to enter the harbour but stay at sea.
