Approach

Approach route: Koh Si Chang TPP is located at 13°08.3'N 100°49.3'E and is usually approached from the S through the TSS.

Traffic schemes and VTS

A TSS has been established within the Sri Racha Pilotage District. The scheme runs approx NE, NNE and N between the coast and Koh Si Chang. Inward (13°03'N 100°48'E) and Outward Lightbuoys (13°13'N 100°52'E) (safe water) lie at each end of the scheme. The TSS is not IMO-adopted.

Anchorages

The anchorage area is between 13°07'N to 13°08'N and 100°50'E and 100°51'E. Depth of water is approx 20.0m with good holding consisting of mud and sand.

Caution: A dangerous wreck lies at 13°09.46'N 100°50.77'E in the NE part of anchorage Area D, 0.75nm ENE of Ko Ran Dok Mai.

A former mined area exists around Koh Si Chang. Various areas were declared dangerous owing to mines laid during the 1939-1945 war. The lapse of time since has reduced the risk of these mines to being no greater than the ordinary hazards of surface navigation. However, a risk does remain with regard to anchoring, fishing or any form of submarine activity close to the sea bed. Care should be taken around Koh Si Chang when navigating in waters with depths of less than 5.5m. Precautions should also be taken against unauthorised boarding by thieves whilst at anchor in this area.

Restrictions

The above actions are taken to ensure that disconnecting operations have been completed prior to winds increasing to 40kts which is the maximum operating wind for the loading arms.

Tugs

Two tugs are available, 1 x 3,600hp and 1 x 600hp.
