Approach

updated Oct 2019

Approach

The approach is through the outer part of Seno Contreras, then through Bahia Corbeta Papudo.

The directions are as follows:

The initial position is 280m S of Baliza Este.

First leading lights: Front light (white diamond with black band on post), 850m WSW of Baliza Este.

Rear light (similar) 30m W of the front light).

The alignment (275°) of these lights leads W towards the berth. The starboard anchor should be let go 260m from the front light in depths of 50-60m, chalky mud or clay.

The approach should be continued on the leading line, veering cable to 190m until in a position to pass a bow line to the shore. The vessel then drops back veering cable to 250m in order to berth alongside the piers on a heading of 310°.

It is necessary to keep the cable clear of a foul patch lying 35m NE of the NW berthing pier. Lines are taken to the hauling off buoy and to bollards on the shore.

Second lights in line: Front light (metal post, topmark white board with black bands), 780m SW of Baliza Este.

Rear light (metal post, topmark white board with red bands), 13m SSW of the front light.

The alignment (199°) of these lights marks a position approx 215m from the anchor position.

Port limits

The port limits are bounded by the meridian of Baliza Este and the parallel of Baliza Weste.
