Haian is located on the southern end of the Leizhou Peninsula, facing the sea port on Hainan Island across the Qiongzhou Strait.
The port
Haian is one of the major ports in the W part of Guangdong Province and a hub for transport to the island from the mainland.
The port, managed by Zhanjiang Shipping Administration Bureau, is used for the transport of passengers and vehicles between the mainland and Hainan Island. The port has an area of 3km², with a water area of 300,000m².
