Approach

updated May 2010

Approach

The port for Grindavik is in Hop Harbour. The entrance channel which lies between reefs, is 70m wide and dredged to 9.5m. The harbour is approached on No 1 Leading Light Beacons (green), on a course of 003.25°, across Sundbodhi (shoal), and through Snuninger. Then the channel narrows and leads through the reefs, passing two light beacons close to port (red), and into the harbour. Mariners must follow these channel leads closely. Two light beacons (port hand) lie close W of leading line. A lightbuoy (green spar) is moored on the E side of the channel about 0.2nm S of the breakwater.

The track continues through Snuningur and the N through the narrow channel in the reef and into the harbour. The alignment (068°) of No 2 Leading Light, in the NE part of the harbour, leads into the inner part of the harbour.
