Approach

updated Aug 2016

Approach

Territorial limits of port of Fujairah are 12nm from shore line.

There is a two way traffic route for vessels entering and leaving the port.

Inbound channel: Width 158m, dredged depth 15.0m CD, max current 2.5kts, bottom sand, mud and shells.

Caution: Vessels entering and leaving the port are required to pass starboard to starboard. This is to ensure inbound vessels have sufficient time to establish the inbound transit before entering between the moleheads while outbound vessels may turn immediately to port on clearing the N molehead.

Rendezvousing between steaming vessels and service boats is prohibited within Fujairah offshore anchorage area.

Movements of vessels in double banked (side by side) position are prohibited in Fujairah offshore anchorage area.

Anchorages

Anchoring between shore line and western limits of Fujairah Offshore Anchorage area is prohibited.

Any type of vessel intending to use Fujairah Offshore Anchorage Area must have a local agency based in Fujairah.

Tugs

Port: Tugs are compulsory for all vessels manoeuvring in port except when shifting along the quay or berth. Port control must be informed before initiating the latter move to ensure that safety will not be compromised. The number of tugs used in berthing and unberthing operations is decided by the pilot and is based on general usage.

The number of tugs required to berth or unberth a vessel must be made known to the port through the pilot while docking and undocking.

SPM: Is located in an area of sea which gives a limited manoeuvring circle, it is necessary for a tug to assist in turning the vessel and to keep head up to the wind and current.

When strong tides exist it will be necessary to have a tug to keep the tanker from running bows on to the SPM and to swing the tanker around to stem the tide. If, during bad weather, the vessel starts to yaw wildly about the buoy, very high loading will be created on the mooring ropes when the bow reaches the extremity of its yaw. Should a tug be in attendance, this yaw can be prevented by the tug towing the vessel astern with just enough force to keep the mooring ropes leading straight ahead.

A support vessel dedicated to the SPM will consist of one firefighting tug which will remain in attendance throughout loading operations.

Mooring

Berthing is possible only in daylight, tankers must be at pilot station 1 hour before sunset. Unberthing is possible throughout 24 hours.

Mooring lines must be rope not wires.

The Master should ensure that the vessel is provided with sufficient fenders to adequately protect the vessel and port premises when berthing and unberthing.

When berthed at or while alongside any quay the Master should at all times keep the vessel properly and effectively moored to the satisfaction of the port management. The moorings must be kept taut and adjusted from time to time to allow for the change in draught and rise and fall of the tide. The moorings must also be so arranged that they can be quickly and easily released.

During berthing and unberthing engines should not be used in such a manner as to cause damage to the bed or banks of the harbour or to another vessel.

Only the special equipment installed at the berth, such as bollards or rings may be used for mooring.

Mooring men are compulsory for the handling of mooring lines.

The knots of the heaving lines shall not be loaded in such a manner as may cause injury to the mooring men or third parties.

Lifeboat testing: Lifeboats may be lowered to the water with permission from the Control Tower and may be put in the water with 24 hours notice being received by the ships agent and permission granted by Control Tower.
