Approach

updated Jan 2017

Approach

Directions for entering harbour: Approach and entry to the fjord is generally unobstructed by dangers and depths shelve gradually towards the head of the fjord.

A marine farm is moored inshore in an area extending from 0.4nm NNW to 0.6nm SE of Toftenaes (62°13.5'N 006°48.3'W).

Port limits

The alignment (025°) of two light beacons (each a white concrete tower, red top, 80m apart) at Enni on the NE side of the fjord, marks the outer harbour limit. The alignment (054.5°) of two light beacons (each a white post, green bands, circular topmark) marks the inner harbour limit.

Anchorages

Fuglafjordur is well sheltered, has excellent holding ground, and is preferable to Klaksvik as an anchorage as the mountain squalls are less violent.

The best anchorage is in mid fjord in a depth of approx 24m with the outer light structures bearing approx 067° and the inner light structures bearing approx 013°.

Small vessels can proceed much farther in but care must be taken to avoid the moorings of laid up ships.

Permission of the Harbour Authority is required to anchor N of the inner harbour limit.
