About FPSO 'Ichthys Venturer'

updated Jan 2025

Where it is

FPSO 'Ichthys Venturer' is located in the Ichthys Field, approximately 460km NNE of Broome in Western Australia.

The port

The FPSO is 336m long and 59m wide, and designed to hold more than one million barrels of condensate. 85,000 barrels of condensate stored per day at peak will be shipped from the FPSO.

Gas produced from the Ichthys Field is gathered within the nearby Central Processing Facility, 'Ichthys Explorer', where it is separated into gases and liquids. The liquids (condensate) are then piped to FPSO 'Ichthys Venturer', which processes and stabilises the liquid condensate and then periodically offloads this on to tankers for shipping and export.

The Ichthys LNG Project is operated by INPEX, who pipe the gases produced by the CPF ('Ichthys Explorer') to an onshore plant near Darwin where it is liquefied and exported.

The CPF processes the product received via the flexible risers from the production wells, separating it into gas and condensate. The CPF measures approximately 110m by 150m, making the semi-submersible platform one of the largest of its kind in the world.

FPSO 'Ichthys Venturer' is in close proximity to the FSRU 'Prelude' FLNG Facility (see separate entry). Both projects draw from separate fields, Prelude and Ichthys respectively, but could share gas at a reservoir which may straddle both Fields depending on the positioning and timing of the Projects' separate drilling programmes.
