Approach

updated May 2024

Approach

Drilling and marine subsea operations may take place within the field boundaries at any time. Detailed updates are sent to the offtake tankers prior to arrival and the information should be plotted before entry to Bijupira and Salema fields.

Anchorages

The water in the area is too deep to anchor, suggested holding position in an area SE of the FPSO, away from other installations, is 22°45'S 040°20'W.

Restrictions

Manoeuvring Restrictions: No approach should be made to the FPSO unless the berthing operation can be completed during daylight.

Mooring

All mooring approach and oil transfers shall be in line with the Adverse Weather Guidance for mooring approach and oil transfer.

The mooring and offloading operations will be conducted with the assistance of a Line Handling Vessel. All Offtake Tankers shall be provided with an OCIMF approved bow stopper for 76mm chain with minimum Safe Working Load of 200t and Nominal Breaking Load 438t.

The FPSO is equipped with 2 identical hawser winches with hawser, chafe chain and messenger line. For offtake tankers up to 150,000DWT one hawser will be used. For larger offtake tankers, two hawsers will be used.

The Offtake Tanker is moored using a 90m x 533mm Nylon hawser with a breaking load of 581t attached to the FPSO by a hydraulically operated Pusnes winch with built in release mechanism. At the offtake tanker end a 'chafe' chain is provided for connection to the OCIMF approved chain stopper. The chaffing chain consists of 8m of 83mm chain connected to the hawser followed with a 3.5m x 76mm stud link chain as rated at 470t breaking strain. At the FPSO end of the chafe chain a buoy is attached.

The floating messenger is attached to the outer end of the chafing chain by a special "D" type shackle. It consists of 150m of 80mm diameter polypropylene rope with one steel thimble, known as the main messenger, together with a further length of 100m of 36mm diameter polypropylene line, known as the forerunner. The light messenger is spliced into the main messenger at the end furthest from the terminal.

Offtake tankers should have an empty spooling drum to accommodate the messenger.
