Approach
updated Aug 2018Approach
Channel: The channel, which lies between 2 jetties, N and S, is 220m in length and 70m in width. It has been dredged to a depth of 1.5m CD. Entry is only recommended at the end of the ingoing stream, approx 30 minutes before HW when the NNE-going stream is weak, especially for large vessels, heavy vessels and during bad weather conditions.
Approach and entry: The port is approached directly from seaward through a dredged channel which lies between two jetties which project from the shore.
Leading lights: Head of Jetee Sud (grey tower, green top, 10m in height) (49°45.9'N 000°21.9'E). Root of Jetee Nord (red circle on white mast, 7m in height) (230m E of front light).
The alignment (082°) of these lights, which may be difficult to distinguish against the town lights at night, leads from the W to a position several hundred metres from Jetee Sud, when course should be adjusted towards ENE to pass close N to the head of Jetee Sud noting the NNE-going stream across the harbour entrance. This approach allows for the yaw as the bows enter slack water, while the stern is still in the current, which aligns the vessel with the entrance channel.
The entrance channel leads to both Avant-port and Arriere-port from where direct approach can be made to the bridge and lock gates of Freycinet commercial non tidal basin or from the Avant port direct to the lock gates of Berigny non tidal Basin.
Port limits
The port limits extend 2nm from the piers.
Anchorages
The coast in the vicinity of Fecamp is exposed and anchoring is not recommended. There is a waiting anchorage, centred 1.2nm W of Jetee Nord Light, in depths from 10.0-16.0m, sand and shell, bad holding ground. The anchorage is exposed to winds from the SW through N to NE. The sea rises rapidly and vessels should only anchor in fine weather.
The best anchorage is the ESE edge of the waiting area in depths of 10.0m, adjacent to the Casino (49°46.5'N 000°21.6'E).
Restrictions
The lock is opened 2 hours before HW until HW.
Tugs
Available. Two pilot boats are also available.
