Approach
updated Aug 2010Approach
The harbour is approached through a channel marked by spar buoys and leading lights, which leads from seaward in a NE direction through the heads of 2 breakwaters which extend 0.5nm SW from the harbour. Depth 7.0m, max draught 6.5m.
Entering the harbour: From the vicinity of Falkenberg Angoring Lightbuoy, the track leads NNE in the white sector (017°-033°) of Falkenberg Light (white floodlit tower, red bands, 8.0m in height, 56°28.9'N 012°28.0'E) at the seaward end of the W breakwater. Passing:
WNW of an 8.5m shoal (0.8nm SSW) marked by a buoy (starboard hand)
ESE of a 7.3m shoal (0.7nm SW) marked by a buoy (port hand) which extends 0.7nm ESE of Skottarevet, a shoal marked by a buoy.
When in position, approx 0.2nm from the harbour entrance, the track leads NE into the dredged channel between the breakwaters. The area is marked by:
Front light (white triangle, red border, point up, on mast, 56°53.4'N 012°28.6'E)
Rear light (white triangle, red border, point down, on mast, 360m farther NE).
The above two separate pair of lights in line (032.5°), mark the E and W edges of the seaward end of the dredged channel. From a position 0.2nm NE of the harbour entrance, the width of the channel on the E side is extended, marked by buoys.
From a position 0.4nm inside the harbour entrance, marked by a lightbuoy (port and starboard hand) the track leads ENE and NE following the river to the N end of the harbour.
Lights in line: Front light (white triangle, red border, point up, 56°53.5'N 012°29.4'E). Rear light (similar structure point down, 120m from front light. The alignment of these lights marks the N side of the dredged channel and clears No 1 Floating Dock. In addition, the S side of the channel is marked by the alignment (061°) of beacons (white triangle, red borders, point together).
