Compulsory for all vessels. At least 24 hours advance notice must be sent to Philippine Ports Authority-Dumaguete who in turn inform the Dumaguete Pilots' Association. Pilot boards approximately 0.5nm E of the port in position 09°18.8'N 123°19.2'E and for San Carlos or Bais Bay in position 09°18.6'N 123°20.6'E.

The pilot launch, powered by a single 16hp engine, 8.5m long with a half-arch out-rigger, is used in conveying the pilots or other boarding teams to the vessel at the designated boarding station. With only this motorised banca, prompt and efficient pilotage services are usually hampered during inclement weather.

Approach

updated Sep 2021

Approach

Approach and entry: Dumaguete should be approached on a W track with the light on No 1 Pier right ahead exercising caution against an eddy reported to occur 0.05nm off the pier which causes a S set away from the berth.

Anchorages

Outer anchorage: On account of the depth no anchorage areas are recommended. Vessels usually anchor SE of Dumaguete Light situated at the root of No 1 Pier, in approximately 27.4m, coral sand, seaward of a line drawn from Dumaguete Point to the seaward extremity of No 1 Pier. Inshore of this line soundings decrease rapidly.

Prohibited anchorage: Care should be taken not to anchor near the submarine cables extending from Calindagan village, 1nm S of Dumaguete port.

Restrictions

Berthing may not be possible during the monsoon season. Berthing is permitted during daylight hours (0600-1800hrs) only. Unberthing may take place at anytime.
