Approach

updated Jul 2024

Approach

The depth in the approach channel is 30.0m, current 1.5kts.

Restrictions

Caution must also be taken in the SE basin between Covenas and Tolu due to the presence of an artificial reef. The reef lies between the 10.0-20.0m depth curve and close SW of the anchorage near Tolu.

All cargo tanks must be fully inert on arrival and the terminal advised that the oxygen content is below 8%.

Failure to comply with the above may cause the vessel to be delayed until the tanks are inert.

Tugs

There are 2 tugs of 5,000hp, both multi service vessels, available to assist vessels in the berthing and unberthing of tankers alongside, one of which handles berthing wires and hoses.

Mooring

Daylight berthing only however unberthing may be carried out at any time.

For mooring at the 6 legged SBM's, the bow fairlead(s) require an opening of 600mm x 450mm.

About Covenas Offshore Terminal

updated Jul 2024

Where it is

The offshore oil terminal is situated in the Gulf of Morrosquillo, approx 56nm SSW of Cartagena, Colombia.

The port

The private offshore terminal is situated NW of Puerto Covenas, (09°25'N., 075°41'W). The tanker terminal is used for exporting crude oil from the 2,800,000bbls onshore storage tanks to the 3 SBM's or Tanker loading units (TLU's). A service pier is located within the port area. The SBM's allow tankers the freedom of movement according to meteorological and marine conditions due to the fact that half of the SBM remains anchored to the land whilst the other half is observed over the sea and rotates 360°.
