Approach

Approach

Vessels entering and leaving the port should keep to their respective starboard side of the route. Pleasure craft are not permitted to use the above route, but instead, have an Inshore Traffic Zone, which has been established between the S boundary of Anchorage A and the adjacent shore.

Caution: Between Castellammare di Stabia and Torre Annunziata, there are numerous unmarked submerged rubble breakers. They extend parallel and right angles and at a distance of between 150 and 200m from the coast. Vessels on passage should remain at least 200m off the coast.

An oyster bed is situated on the W side of Molo di Ponente. Vessels should not approach within 0.45nm of the W side of this mole. The depths of 15.0m at the entrance of harbour, with a lowest depth of 9.0m in the centre of the basin and draughts of 4.0-10.0m.

Anchorages

In summer, vessels anchor in depths of approx 18m, mud and good holding ground, at a convenient distance from the head of Molo Foraneo. In autumn, a good berth is in depths of 20.0-26.0m, 0.2nm NW of the head of Molo Foraneo. This anchorage is untenable with strong winds between S and WNW.

There are two anchorage areas have been established, area A lies W and area B lies NW of Molo Faraneo Light.

Vessels arriving with dangerous cargo are prohibited from using these anchorages.

Restrictions

Vessels should not approach approx 0.16nm offshore to avoid the dangerous underwater breakwaters installed 0.11nm off the beach to prevent erosion.

Tugs

Available if ordered via Naples.

Mooring

Two mooring buoys are laid at the head of the harbour. Two more are laid off Pontile Silos, which extend 0.7nm NW from the S of the harbour, and at which vessels berth stern to.
