Approach

updated May 2010

Approach

The alignment (268°) of leading lights (metal towers), situated about 300m apart on the W side of the harbour, leads from E between the heads of the breakwaters from which lights (metal towers) are exhibited. It is reported that the front leading light structure is partially obscured by a hotel.

Anchorages

Anchorage may be obtained in the NW part of Bahia San Lucas in depths from 11.0 to 22.0m. The edge of the bank is very steep. The W part of the bay is better protected from the sea but the anchorage can only be used by small vessels.

Good anchorage during NW winds but is unsafe from Jul-Sep when SE winds are rather frequent and sometimes blow strongly. A narrow trench of great depth runs up the middle of the bay to within 0.3nm of the W shore.
