Approach

updated Apr 2023

Approach

From SW depths decrease regularly as the coast is approaches; it is recommended to stay in depths of over 20.0m until making the final approach to the outer anchorage and pilot station. The port is entered through a channel marked by lightbuoys (lateral), leading NE through Knowr-e Deyreh then SE through Knowr-e Soltani.

Note: Aids to navigation in the vicinity of the port are reported to be unreliable. Vessels should navigate with particular caution.

Approach from SE:

Steer a course passing 6.0nm off Ra's-e Halileh, continue NW in depths of not less than 10.0m.

Approach from SW:

Depths decrease as the coast is neared. The mosque at Emamzadeh and the conspicuous house 0.5nm S of it as well as the telegraph buildings near Rishahr Point, will be the first objects sighted, showing white, especially in the afternoon sun.

Approaching from N:

Vessels passing Ra's osh Shatt (29°05'N 050°42'E) should not get into depths of less than 20.0m and should keep in that depth until the outer harbour is reached.

The Fairway Buoy is located in position 28°57.7'N 050°44.2'E.

Approach channels: The approach channels leading first to the inner anchorage and then to the harbour at Bushehr, are marked by leading lights and lightbuoys. The outer channel is 9,200m in length, 150m wide and has a depth of 7.0m, the inner channel is 3,900m in length, 140m wide and has a depth of 8.0m.

From the outer anchorage, 5.5nm SW of the N extremity of Bushehr the Khore-Deyreh Leading Lights, in line bearing 043° lead through the outer dredged channel.

Vessels drawing more than 4.0m must keep strictly on the leading line as shoal depths lie immediately outside the dredged channel.

From the inner anchorage Khowr-e Soltani Directional Light (orange trapezium on tower) 12m in height, which stands 1.5nm SE of the N point of Bushehr, leads through the inner dredged channel when kept on a bearing of 143°, in its white sector ahead.

Dredging: It is reported that the access channel and the port depth have been increased to just under 11.0m. A new turning basin has been dredged to 400m in diameter with a 10.0m depth. The harbour authorities should be consulted for the latest information.

Caution: It should be noted that a turn of 100° must be made at the junction of the outer and inner dredged channels; although the entrance to the inner channel has been widened to a width of 140m to facilitate the turn, great care must be taken; a vessel should pass close S of No 14 Lightbuoy, moored 200m WSW of Khowr-e Deyrwh Front Light structure and then follow the directions given above.
