Approach

updated Jun 2019

Approach

Badas inlet is marked by a light (white structure, 7m in height), on the NW entrance point, and by a light (tower) standing on the SE shore. From N of Tanjung Batukuping (8°28'S 117°23'E) the track leads SW towards the inlet, passing through the entrance channel which has a width of 150m between reefs fringing the coast on each side; beacons (lateral) mark the reefs on each side.

A light (white beacon) stands on the bank (8°28'S 117°22'E), 2 1/2 cables within the inlet.

Port limits

LOA limited to 110m only due to restricted swinging room.

Daylight entry is recommended as Teluk Sumbawa is exposed to the NW monsoon.

Anchorages

Anchorage is usually obtained in a depth of 29m, mud, off the shore of the bay, but the bottom is steep and vessels lie close in.

The holding ground in deeper water in the middle of the bay is good but the anchorages cannot be considered safe in the NW monsoon.
