Approach
updated Dec 2015Approach
Ponta do Felix Terminal: A narrow buoyed channel leads up to this terminal 4.0km SE of Antonina, starting just under 1.0nm NW of the Fospar Terminal Jetty at Paranagua at green marker buoy No 2 (Fl(1).G.4s) and red marker buoy No 1 (Fl(1).R.4s). The channel is marked by pairs of red and green buoys and leads on up the river, approx. 14.0nm, until green marker buoy No 16 (Q(2).G.4s) and red marker buoy No 15 (Q(2).R.4s), located 0.25nm from the quay. A flashing yellow light marks the SE end of the Ponta do Felix quay, with another yellow flashing light situated 360m along the quay.
The channel is approximately 120m wide with depth of 6.0 to 8-0m. Care should be taken when navigating the channel as there are areas of foul ground close South of Buoys No 13 and 14, and South East of Buoys No 9 and 10, where there is also a wreck marked on the chart.
Antonina Town: A narrow channel leads up to the town harbour area 4.0km NW from the Ponta do Felix Terminal between sand banks which extend from both shores of the bay. The channel is not well marked and is only used during the day at HW. All vessels must be accompanied by tugs. The allowable depth for the Antonina Town port area is 5.89m with a maximum recommended LOA of between 154m and 188m, according to silting conditions. The maximum depth for Ponta do Felix Terminal is up to 1.2m higher with higher tides (the projected depth is 8.0m) but movement of larger vessels, on higher tides, must be authorised first by the Marine Authority and Pilot Service.
