Approach
updated Sep 2020Approach
It has been reported that numerous changes to depths and to the coastline have occurred within the harbour. Berths have been lengthened and depths are generally deeper than charted. The port authority should be contacted for latest information. There are three entrances into the harbour; Senholmleia, Boringsleia, Leisundet.
Senholmleia (from NW):
Local knowledge is required and an entry should not be attempted during bad weather, when the sea breaks across the channel. Buoyage direction of marking is NW to SE. Initial approach position 69° 26'N 015° 52'E.
Approach: The white sector 139°-143° of Andenes Light (white lantern on metal tower) (69° 19.6'N 016° 07.5'E) at the head of the W mole, leads in from the NW. There is a rock (2m in height) which lies on the leading line, 0.18nm NW of the harbour entrance. There are patches 4m, or less, between the spar buoy and the harbour entrance.
Boringsleia (from E and N):
The position 69° 18.8'N 016° 09.0'E leads in from E, passing 0.15-0.20nm N of the NE detached mole then into the harbour between the two detached mole. Buoyage direction of marking is W to E.
Leisundet (from E): This is considered the best of the three entrance channels.
Buoyage direction of marking is E to W. Initial approach position 69° 19'N 016° 13'E. The white sector 235°-330° of Boringan Molo Light (concrete column) 69° 19.6'N 016° 09.4'E, on the NE side of the NE detached mole, shows over clear water in the E approach.
