Amderma port is situated on the Yugorskiy peninsular in the southern part of the Kara Sea, Russia.
The port
Located along the coastline of the Kara Sea, Amderma is a remote port that serves the small village it supports. Characterised by its polar climate, the port only operates in the summer with navigation usually lasting between the beginning of June through to the beginning of November.
During these months, sea-going vessels navigate the waters, transporting cargoes to sustain the local community. The Program of Northern Delivery ensures that the village receives supplies, including chemicals, diesel fuel, equipment, and food. The process is orchestrated through STS locations in which sea-going vessels unload cargoes onto barges and pontoons within the anchorage area.
