Approach

Approach

The waterway channel has a length of 1.2nm, width 70m and depth of 8.5m. However, silting may reduce the depth.

Main channel:

Bakoren Leading Lights:

Front light (red triangle on white framework tower, 6.0m in height, 55°56.6'N 014°20.5'E) visible on leading line only.

Rear light (similar structure, elevation 15m, 830m WNW of front light).

The leading line lies in the white sector (288.5°-290.5°) of the rear light.

From the vicinity of the Taggen Lightbuoy (E cardinal) marking Taggen, a shoal patch also marked by another buoy (E cardinal), the alignment (289.5°) of these light leads WNW through the channel, passing:

NNE of Pallagrund (4.5nm ESE), a shoal patch marked by a buoy.

S of a buoy (S cardinal) 3.5nm E, then N of Brodena (3.0nm E) marked by a buoy (N cardinal). Then, between lightbuoy and a buoy (lateral) (2.25nm ENE) the latter marking Tiofotsgrundet, a shoal patch on the N side of the channel, then to the alignment of:

Revhaken Leading Light:

The alignment 245.5° of these lights leads 1.0nm WSW of the entrance channel through a channel marked by buoys and lightbuoys (lateral) passing between Laxoren, a rocky shoal area 1.25nm ENE of the harbour entrance, and Wilsthiregrund, as hoal patch 1.75nm E of the harbour entrance.

Entrance Leading Lights:

Front Light (red triangle on framework mast) (55°55.7'N 014°19.3'E).

Rear Light (red triangle on silo, 265m from front light).

The alignment 275.25° of these lights leads 1.25nm W to the entrance, in a channel marked by lightbuoys and buoys (lateral) and with a swept depth of 8.0m.

Approach from SSE:

The alignment (348°) of the following marks joins the main channel 1.0nm E of Pallagrund, passing E of Botildas Knall (55°49'0N 014°30.5'E)

Front mark, Lagerholmen Lighthouse

Rear mark, W side of Ifoklack (56°08'N 014°25'E).

Secondary channel:

Local knowledge is required for this channel which is entered from the S in the vicinity of Knuven (55°47.7'N 014°24.2'E), a shoal patch 0.85nm SSE of the harbour entrance. Then the track leads NNW for approx 9.0nm to join the main channel 1.25nm E of the harbour entrance, passing:

E of Sanket (7.5nm SSE), W of Botildas Knall (9.0nm SE), E of Kiviksbredan (6.0nm SSE) marked on its E limits by a buoy (E cardinal), W of Stupet (3.5nm SE). Then, between Ullersgrund (2.75nm SE) marked by a buoy (port hand) and Branta Knalln (3.0nm SE), ENE of Stenklintarna (1.75nm) ESE, marked by a buoy (port hand), then 0.7nm NW to join the main channel.

Anchorages

Anchorage may be obtained, S of the approach channels and clear of leading lines, either 1.25nm E of the harbour entrance in a depth of 10.0-17.0m or 0.8nm ESE of the entrance in depths of 5.5-8.0m.

Restrictions

Maximum permitted draught in the channel is 7.6m but silting can reduce this draught.
